Burnaby RCMP looking for South Asian in hit and run that injured police officer

Do you know a South Asian male with a heavy build, shaved head and a tattoo on his left arm?

BURNABY RCMP are looking for a South Asian male with a heavy build, shaved head and a tattoo on his left arm in a hit and run which occurred Wednesday morning at Willingdon Avenue and Parker Street in Burnaby.

On July 4 at 10 a.m., a Burnaby RCMP member on foot attempted to stop a vehicle as the driver appeared to be using an electronic device behind the wheel. The police officer signaled for the driver to pull over, but the driver failed to do so and struck the officer with his vehicle. The suspect was last seen headed south on Willingdon Avenue.

The officer suffered a broken arm and remains in hospital at this time.

Police are continuing to search for the suspect and the vehicle which is a grey Dodge Nitro SUV. The suspect driver was wearing a white t-shirt and grey sweatpants.

“Incidents like this show the danger our officers face each and every day as they perform their duties in the City of Burnaby,” says Burnaby RCMP Superintendent Chuck McDonald. “What started as a traffic stop has left one of our members injured, we’d ask that the driver of the vehicle that struck this officer to do the right thing and contact police.”

Anyone with information on the suspect or suspect vehicle is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
