AT approximately 8:50 p.m. on Friday, Burnaby RCMP responded to a vehicle collision on Lougheed Highway between Madison Avenue and Gilmore Avenue.  A pedestrian was fatally struck in this collision involving a few vehicles.

Two people involved were taken to hospital while one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is still in its early stages, but police said it is believed that speed was a contributing factor.

As a result of the incident, Lougheed Highway will be closed between Madison Avenue and Gilmore Avenue for a significant amount of time.
