Burnaby RCMP advises drivers to check their wheels before they drive

BURNABY RCMP responded to two reports within 24 hours from residents who noticed that wheel lug nuts had been loosened on their vehicles.

On Monday afternoon, Burnaby RCMP received a report from a driver who said they had a wheel come off while driving due to what the driver believes to have been wheel lug nuts being loosened. However, neither the driver nor any other member of the public was injured in this incident. The incident occurred on Marine Way at Byrne Road last week on Tuesday, June 11.

On Tuesday morning, Burnaby RCMP received a report from a driver who said wheel lug nuts had been loosened on their vehicle while it was parked in the 3500-block of Brighton Avenue. The driver said that this occurred on Monday, June 17 between 4:30 and 5:10 p.m.

“Both of these incidents could have had serious consequences and it’s a good reminder for drivers to always ensure vehicles are safe to drive,” says Cpl. Daniela Panesar. “While we are unsure if these incidents are linked, we are asking that drivers make sure to check their wheels before driving to ensure wheel lug nuts have not been loosened.”

Police are also asking that if you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, immediately contact the Burnaby RCMP.
