BC Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson and Transportation Critic Jordan Sturdy are calling on the NDP to listen to British Columbians following “the bungled introduction of ridesharing legislation” on Monday.

“We can now expect another holiday season without ridesharing,” said Wilkinson. “Another season of British Columbians stuck out in the cold waiting for a ride home is unacceptable. The previous government had the framework in place in 2017 but the NDP have insisted they know best and kicked the can down the road to maybe 2020.”

The rules and regulations introduced by Transportation Minister Claire Trevena will make it almost impossible for ridesharing to exist in BC, said the BC Liberals.

“The NDP has set ridesharing up to fail in British Columbia,” said Sturdy. “The government will set the supply, price, and boundaries instead of allowing customer demand to be the deciding factor.”

“Customers will see no improvements as this government continues to ignore customers and public needs in order to maintain the status quo,” added Wilkinson. “Ridesharing will be seen in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, before Vancouver catches sight of an Uber or Lyft.”

Vancouver will continue to be the largest city in North America without ridesharing, the BC Liberals noted.
