Attempted catalytic converter theft leads to vehicle fires in Coquitlam

COQUITLAM RCMP are looking for a dark, older model sedan and four suspects after two vehicle fires that may have been caused by an attempt to steal catalytic converters.

At 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, Coquitlam RCMP and the Coquitlam Fire Department were called because two vehicles were on fire in the 1000-block of Riverside Drive, Port Coquitlam.

The investigation has just started, but witness statements and video support the theory that the vehicle fires were started by thieves attempting to steal catalytic converters.

Police are looking for a dark, older-model sedan that was seen driving away from the scene with four males were inside.
One of the suspects is described as a tall, lanky male with a grey hoodie. The suspect was also wearing a headlamp.
It’s too early to say if this file is related to any other catalytic converter thefts, but that’s one of the possibilities the Coquitlam RCMP say they will be investigating.
