Alleged street racers Baapushan Thevathasan and Vidhura Thangavelu charged after serious collision in Mississauga

INVESTIGATORS from the Major Collision Bureau of Peel Regional Police have charged two drivers after a serious collision, which left one female with life-threatening injuries.

On Monday, May 11, a collision occurred in the intersection of Mavis Road and Bristol Road in Mississauga between a black 2008 Mercedes SUV and a silver 2000 Honda Civic. The Major Collision Bureau determined that a third vehicle, a silver 2007 Audi, was involved in the racing incident, but not directly with the actual collision.

The 57 year-old female driver of the Honda Civic suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma centre. The driver of the black SUV suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

Baapushan Thevathasan, 19, of Mississauga, who was operating the black Mercedes, has been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm by street racing and he is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Monday, June 15.

Vidhura Thangavelu, 22, of Mississauga, who was operating the silver Audi, has also been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm by street racing and he too is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Monday, June 15.
