THE princess born Saturday to Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge has been named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Saturday congratulated William and his wife Kate on the birth of their daughter.

Harper said that all Canadians were delighted to learn of the birth of the Princess of Cambridge, the second child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the younger sister to Prince George.

He added: “Canada’s royal family holds a very special place in our country and so the news of this new addition to our royal family is particularly exciting.  We very much look forward to developing a close and personal relationship with The Princess of Cambridge as she grows, in keeping with the remarkable affection our country has had for decades for the Queen and the Royal Family.

The newborn princess is now the fourth in line to the British throne, after brother Prince George, father Prince William and grandfather Prince Charles.
