A Liberal government will give a tax cut to the middle class, says Justin Trudeau

LIBERAL Party Leader Justin Trudeau on Monday outlined how a Liberal government will grow the economy and deliver real change for Canadians with a tax cut for the middle class and a new, tax-free monthly child benefit to help parents with the high costs of raising their kids.

A Liberal government will give a tax cut to the middle class. Every Canadian with taxable income between $44,700 and $89,401 per year will see their income tax rate fall to 20.5 percent.

Trudeau said the Liberals will ask the wealthiest one percent to pay a little more, so the middle class can pay less.

A Liberal government will also create the Canada Child Benefit: one bigger, fair, tax-free, automatic monthly cheque that puts more money back in the pockets of Canadian families who need it most.

Trudeau said that his Canada Child Benefit will lift 315,000 children out of poverty. Nine out of 10 families will get more from the Liberal plan.

Trudeau said: “For 10 years, Stephen Harper has ignored those at the heart of our economy: the middle class. While doing most of the heavy-lifting, middle class Canadians have had to work longer and harder for an ever-shrinking piece of the pie. Hard working families, like the Vahidy family here in Ajax, need to have money in their pockets to save, invest, and grow the economy. Our plan will make a real difference in the lives of all Canadians.”

He added: “Stephen Harper’s plan gives billions in benefits to the wealthiest few and will do nothing to help middle class Canadians get ahead. Thomas Mulcair and the NDP have no answers on the economy, and they irresponsibly support Harper’s plan to give more money to millionaires. After a decade of Stephen Harper, only Liberals have a new plan that will deliver real change so all Canadians can succeed.”
