2019 Ram Rebel:  More luxury, technology and Off Road performance

By Autoreviewman

For 2019, the popular Ram pickup has been much improved with a brand new design, also importantly — towing, payload, interior room, technology, and performance are all way up. It’s also a quieter truck. With a multitude of models available, we recently tested a 2019 Ram Rebel model that offers a unique take on the popular pickup. For starters, the Rebel offers a factory-installed lift kit, big 33-inch tires, Bilstein shock absorbers, a 3.92 gearing, locking rear differential and skid plates for serious off-roading. You also gain special black badging and grille.  The inside is also branded with: Rebel red anodized trim around the speakers, doors, instrument panel and consoles, red and black leather-trimmed seats, and an upgraded audio system- namely a big sounding, 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with noise cancellation technology; linked to a 900-watt surround-sound amp and 10-inch subwoofer. The Rebel arrives in two versions; either a Quad Cab with a 6-ft. 4-in. box, or the Crew Cab offers that, offers a 5ft. 7-in. box, Available features include power tailgate release, tailgate ajar warning and RamBox lockers built into the bed sides, plus in-floor storage bins and a rear-seat fold-down centre console. The Rebel adds a larger touchscreen- Ram’s fourth-generation Uconnect system with a larger processing power, multi-touch gestures, split-screen capability, and high-resolution graphics. It is one of the roomiest and luxurious truck interiors available!

The Rebel offers either a 3.6-liter V-6 eTorque mild hybrid engine, a 5.7-liter V-8 eTorque, or a 5.7-liter V-8 sans eTorque.  The full time 4WD, part time 4H, 4L and normal 2WD — can all be selected by the simple push of button. The Ram also has bigger payload at 2,300 lbs. from 1,880; and max tow rating increases to 12,750 lbs. from 10,450 with the proper tow equipment.

On the road, the 5.7L and transmission works excellently. The engine is bulletproof with its sublime smooth acceleration and copious power. Braking, steering and handling ae also much improved.  With its light power steering and the reversing camera, the Rebel is easy to drive and park. I didn’t take the Rebel off-road, but it should have no problem tackling the great outdoors with its capable off road equipment. The Rebel is a stellar addition to the Ram truck lineup.  Highly recommended if you want a distinctive, unique truck with a sporty flair.
