The 6-Door, Mini Clubman is the wagon- like sibling of the MINI family with four doors and two barn doors at the rear. It is the coolest looking Mini of all the brand’s offshoots in my opinion with it long, low, stretched body. The Clubman is relatively rare on the streets and is a rather interesting take on the Mini; offering a mix of versatility and unique looks. With comfortable seating for five, plus up to 1,250 Litres of trunk space, it’s as practical as it is premium. The Clubman range start with Cooper ALL4 from: $28,690, the Cooper S ALL4 from: $31,690 and the John Cooper Works ALL4 at $38,130.
The Cooper All4 is powered by a 1,499 cc 3 Cylinder Twin Power turbo engine developing 134 hp. The Cooper S meanwhile has a 1,998 cc Cylinder 16 Valve Twin Power Turbo engine developing 189 hp. Transmission wise, there is a six-speed Steptronic auto, or a six-speed manual. Styling wise, the JCW Clubman offers the Clubman with an aggressive body kit, black finished 18-inch wheels, Brembo brakes beefed up suspension and the a retuned 228 horsepower engine with a six speed manual or a ZF 8-Speed automatic transmission.
Interior –wise, the Mini Clubman has the delightfully, slightly updated retro chic that is so endearing. It’s all there- the big round center gauge that houses all the major functions displays, aircraft style switchgear, plenty of chrome accents, and other funky design quirks. All unique looking and a constant delight to look upon. Build quality throughout is up to BMW standards, with materials and finish thoughtfully designed and executed.
On the road, what can I say, I just love Mini’s! The Mini’s ALL4 AWD sends most of its power to the front wheels, the rear wheels getting power on demand. Grip is still tenacious with the low centered Clubman offering wonderful handling through bends and curves. Once again MINI has a niche product that will appeal to the discerning. The base price is tempting, but I am sure most, if not all Mini buyers will want to tick at least a few options for the Clubman. Practical, sporty, a lot of fun to drive, the Mini Clubman’s unique looks inside and out make it a stunner. Little bit biased here, as I do like the styling. Highly recommended.
