2018 RAM 1500 Quad Cab pickup: Power, versatility and good looks!

By Autoreviewman

The venerable Ram 1500 pickup continues into 2018 with a number of special models to escort it out until the new 2019 models take over entirely. For the Canadian market there are three different Ram cab models: regular, quad and crew cabs, three bed lengths and 11 different trim levels. The Ram 1500 comes with a choice of three engines, including: a 3.6L V6, a 3.0L turbodiesel V6, and a 5.7L V8. Two- and four-wheel drivetrains are available; both V6 engines use an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the V8 gets a six-speed.

Major upgrades for this year include a new luxury Limited Tungsten edition, the Sport Edition   and the addition of feature such as an 8.4-inch multimedia touchscreen with: pinch and zoom functions, and improved resolution, 4G LTE, HD Radio, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, All models gain a switch mounted in the cargo bed to turn on the bed lighting. There’s also a new suite of SiriusXM features called Guardian, Travel Link and Traffic Plus, which can perform tasks such as calling roadside assistance, plan trip routes and show traffic information.  The base engine in the Ram 1500 is a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 305 hp and 269 lb-ft. There is also a fuel efficient 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 producing out 240 hp and a very healthy 420 lb-ft of torque. Our tester featured the big dog 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with a hefty 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.    Note, the V8 Hemi is a little thirsty with a fuel consumption rated at L/100km -14.0 combined/ 16.1 City and 11.5 on the highway, but the Hemi does come with fuel saver cylinder deactivation technology. The Ram 1500 can tow up to 10,620 pounds when properly equipped. Our 1500 SLT Quad Cab tester (Base priced from $47,196) was provided with a plethora of options. Also added was the Convenience pack with the park sense-rear park assist system, ParkView rear backup camera, RamBox cargo management system, Class 1V receive with trailer brake control and a spray in bed liner. It not hard to see why the Ram 1500 is so popular with pickup buyers, it look great with its aggressive big- rig styling and has a wonderfully comfortable and well- appointed cabin. On the road, the coil over suspension and easy steering make it a smooth al-l round performer. Highly recommended unless a 2019 model is in your plans.
