2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel will offer fuel economy and performance

Porsche recently launched yet another incarnation of its hallowed Cayenne SUV. And no! Before you ask it is not another souped-up monster with 700 horsepower, but wait for it, a diesel- engined version! Albeit not really noticeable apart from the lower-case “diesel” on the front fenders of the Cayenne. The engine in the diesel Cayenne is a 3.0-litre, turbo-diesel, V-6 coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission with available manual and power supplier to all four wheels.

Porsche says the diesel version weighing in at 2,175 kg will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and deliver awesome fuel economy numbers (10.8 litres/100 km city and 6.7 highways). Purists may snigger at the 240 horsepower figure, but the stump pulling 406 lb-ft of torque is pretty amazing. To put it in perspective the base Cayenne priced at $56,600 has 295 lb-ft of torque and the V-8 Cayenne S produces 369 hp. The diesel has a base price of $64,500. Although as usual by the time you tick the options box you are looking at pricing in the mid- seventies to high eighties for a decent spec version with all the toys, Porsche also claim the diesel has 30 per cent better fuel economy over the same-sized gas engine and drive with a feather foot and only fuel economy in mind and it is claimed you could get nearly 1,500 km out of one tank of fuel!

Look for a full road test soon.
