Local businesses in Surrey rally for the breast cancer cause during Paint Canada Pink Week (August 17-23)

THIS week, Surrey will be pink’d up for the annual Paint Canada Pink Week. More than 100 local businesses all around Surrey will be hanging their pink ribbon decals to support the breast cancer cause and to help kick off Paint Canada Pink Week (August 17-23) for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure.

“The support from local businesses and community organizations have been tremendous,” said Vonda Dickman, Co-Run Director of the Surrey Run site. “Painpinkit Canada Pink Week marks roughly 50 days until Run day so we are encouraging the community to register and start fundraising – it’s not too late.”

Volunteers from the CIBC Run for the Cure organizing committee were out putting up pink ribbon decals for businesses since Monday. Businesses interested in helping ‘Paint Surrey Pink’ can contact Carley Adams, Co-Run Director, at cadams@cbcfrun.org. There is no cost associated to showing support.

Last year, Surrey raised $243,605, contributing to the regional total of $3.16 million. Funds raised through the event are supporting innovative research, health education and advocacy programs that aim to reduce the incidence of breast cancer, lower mortality rates and support women and their families who have been affected by this disease.

Team Captain, Sharlene Wedel, says, “We need to further educate and teach others about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, we need more research, education, and advocacy initiatives. We need to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) to fund research that will change the face of breast cancer and helping us create a future without it.”

Sharlene is featured as a CIBC Run for the Cure Local Hero and joins more than 130 other Local Heroes across the country who offered to share their personal story as part of the 2015 campaign. Sharlene’s full story can be read here under the Fundraising Effect on the CIBC Run for the Cure website.
