This is a great tool for new immigrants to help expedite their job search in Canada; it can also be used while they are still in their home country. This tool provides immigrants with credentials and experience obtained overseas with information about working in Canada. It will tell you what the current prospects are for your profession right across Canada. This will give those still in their home country positive job search experience once they enter Canada as new immigrants if, they settle in the areas listed where their skills are in demand. It offers information on essential skills, job descriptions, and work conditions and opportunities. It will also tell you whether your occupation is a regulated profession in Canada.

- Start by logging on to www.credentials.gc.ca.
- In the left hand side bar, click on Working in Canada Tool
- It will take you to the page where you follow the prompt, start by entering the occupation you had in your home country in the box provided on this page.
- Click on SEARCH
Or you can search by occupation type, then click on EXPAND
- Please note that the title you enter doesn't have to be a perfect match with a title in the database in order to generate results. Using the singular form (e.g.: teacher versus teachers) will generate more results.
- Listed below will be the job title close to the one you listed in OCCUPATION, for example, you listed Doctor. Below OCCUPATION will be the numerous occupations in this field. Click on the one that best describes your profession. For Doctor, it will be General Practitioners and Family Physicians. After you click on this, your occupation’s description will be given to you.
- If the description fits then click on CONTINUE.
- Now you will be given a job description of the job listed. Example, for doctor, it will say:
General practitioners and family physicians diagnose and treat the diseases, physiological disorders and injuries of patients. They provide primary contact and continuous care toward the management of patients' health. They usually work in private practice, including group or team practices, hospitals and clinics. Residents in training to be general practitioners and family physicians are included in this unit group.
- You will be now informed if your occupation is regulated. If yes, you will be given the contact information for your profession’s regulatory body.
- Contact your regulatory body to have your credentials reviewed.
Now you have the information to have your credentials recognized and verified. If you need any upgrading you will receive the information to how and where you can achieve that.
