SINGH IS KINNG IS NOT A MOVIE YOU WOULD WANT TO MISS
By Harvinder Sandhu
Singh is Kinng is fantastic!

The songs are a hit in India and the movie is bound to be a blockbuster. Studio 18 presents an authentic Punjabi movie with great dialogues and acting from the cast - Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Neha Dhupia and Javed Jaffrey. (The movie is in Hindi, but with lots of Punjabi dialogues).

Anees Bazmee, the writer and director, has done a fantastic job in portraying how Punjabis talk, as well as showcasing the giving nature of Sikhs. The movie is full of funny dialogues that are believable, making the audience laugh out loud many, many times.

The songs have a good beat, rap with the Indianness intact.

What does that mean?

It means if you don’t like rap, you will still like this. The title song, Singh is Kinng, has vocals from the rap legend Snopp Dogg and is already a hit in India. Soon this song and the video, which was shown at the end of the movie, with Snopp Dogg in his sherwani, will be on the airwaves a lot. The dance choreography is refreshing and, again, has some Punjabiness to it.

Akhshay Kumar’s acting is wonderful to watch and the delivery of the dialogue, very Punjabi.

The movie is about Lakhan Singh, aka Lucky (Sonu Sood), who is the 'king' of the Australian underworld accompanied by his associates (played by Javed Jaffrey, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma, Kamal Chopra and Sudhanshu Pande.) Far away, in a small village in Punjab, where Lucky was born, there exists someone more notorious than him - Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar). The village is fed up of his magnanimity, which has resulted in a number of hilariously disastrous situations. Out of desperation, they decide to send him on a long trip (that will keep him out of the village for a while!) to bring Lucky back to Punjab, as his despicable deeds were maligning their image in Australia.

It is a movie to be watched by all Indians, especially Punjabis. Akshay said it last Saturday: this is a funny and positive movie, take the family and go get a smile on your face.

(The advance screening was held on Thursday at the Empire 12 Theatres at Guildford Centre in Surrey.)
