MOVIE REVIEW
PLAY IT AGAIN
By ROBERT WALDMAN

Biographies can be tricky affairs to translate to the screen. British filmmaker Phil Grabsky explores the wondrous life of Mozart in the suitably titled In Search of Mozart. Mixing great bits of concert footage with insightful interviews with lead historians audiences get a full-fledged view of this incredibly gifted Austrian who took the world by storm.

Actual letters from the famed composer details interesting tidbits from the Maestro's past. One of six children raised in Strasbourg we are treated to a life history of this one of a kind, larger than life character. Outstanding musical accompaniment traces the development of the young man's talent who at the age of five began to show signs of promise and genius. Trappings of success followed this lad who, as a teen, began performing for European nobility on a fast track second to none.

Even if you don't like music you'll be seduced by the unbelievable lifestyle this boy held and the tremendous sway his father and then wife had over him. Family intrigue, financial problems, artistic jealousies and a joie de vivre second to none make In Search of Mozart a very powerful biographical sketch of arguably Austria's most famous citizen (with apologies to Arnold Schwarzenegger).

Beautiful cinematography that showcases European cities where Mozart once played bookend outstanding concert footage of recent renditions of this master's work with Opera performances that truly deserve standing ovations. Worth a trip to your local cinema or listening library comes In Search of Mozart, a pitch perfect tale of a boy genius.
