#1. KPS GILL: BUTCHER OF PUNJAB?
This is from DALJINDER SINGH of Delta:
Since when has The Vancouver Sun become the official spokesperson for mass murderers? (The Vancouver Sun) reporter Kim Bolan's latest attempt to cleanse the sins of the Indian government has her portraying former head of Punjab police K.P.S. Gill, aka "the butcher of Punjab", as a humanitarian concerned about thousands of innocent deaths in India. Ironically, in the same article, the very human rights groups that are trying to shine light on these deaths are vilified.
No mention is made in the article of Jaswant Singh Khalra, the human rights activist, who in Punjab in the dark days of Gill's control investigated the deaths of over 25,000 people killed and cremated by the Punjab police as "unidentified" persons. When he was successful in uncovering unsavoury truths, he was advised by Gill that if the police truly did kill 25,000 people, one more like him wouldn't be an issue. His badly tortured body was discovered soon afterwards.
Further, no mention is made in the article about the Indian government's "Black Cats". These were criminals enlisted and given power by the Indian government to commit wholesale atrocities including murder of Sikhs as well as Hindus and Muslims. They were used as a powerful fear and propaganda tool to create an atmosphere of terror in Punjab as well as other parts of India.
No mention is made either of close to 300 cases that have now come to light in Punjab where bounties were collected by police officers for killing "wanted" militants. These fake militants, aka "Black Cats", have now been found to be alive and well. Investigations are under way to find out the identities of the actual innocent victims that were killed for these rewards. The entire police hierarchy is now in a panic mode and attempting to suppress any further investigations.
This is perhaps the main reason Gill wants to come to Canada and one of the reasons that the Indian governments lobby machine is going into higher gear than ever before in this country. Gill has no more love of human rights whether they be people he killed in Punjab or that died on the Air India flight under the same Black Cat formula. In my opinion, he should not only come to Canada to testify at the Air India enquiry, but once on Canadian soil, he should be charged with crimes against humanity and dealt with accordingly. Whether you commit your crimes in Rwanda, Chile, India or anywhere else in the world, criminals like Gill need to be dealt with by the international community.
The Vancouver Sun should be championing justice for all innocent victims of the Indian state, including the Air India victims. While criminals like Gill can continue to deny any wrongdoing, just like the criminals that still won't admit the Holocaust ever happened, (The Vancouver Sun) should not be providing them with a platform to do so. (The Vancouver Sun's) continued sanctification of their actions continues to make a lot of innocent people victims of state terrorism. Justice requires this to be rectified immediately.
#2. BRUCE ALLEN CONTROVERSY - ONE
This is from KANWALJIT SINGH GILL of Surrey:
I was very disappointed that Radio CKNW allowed the comments made by Bruce Allen that promoted racial hatred against the minorities. Some of the comments made by Bruce Allen show that he didn't even know about the religious practices of those religions. A person on the Reality Check show should know what he is talking about and what kind of impact his comments will have in the society. And secondly, he doesn't know that Canada is a multicultural country where people from different cultural and religious beliefs live freely in this country and all Canadians generally accept and respect different religions, cultures and customs.
Who is Bruce Allen to tell the minorities to leave Canada if they don't fit in and learn the Canadian culture and customs? Did Bruce Allen or his ancestors try to learn and follow the Canadian culture and customs when they came to Canada? What do they know about Native Canadian culture, customs, language, etc.? Are they willing to accept Native culture and customs? And now Bruce Allen is trying to tell minorities to follow and accept Canadian culture or leave the country!
Bruce Allen's comments were irresponsible and promoted racial hatred against the minorities. Our community should raise their voice against such racially prejudiced comments. All our political leaders should raise their voice against Bruce Allen's comments and ask Premier Gordon Campbell to remove Bruce Allen from 2010 Winter Olympics B.C. Place ceremonies team. How can a racially prejudiced person help in organizing ceremonies where people from various countries and cultures are participating? If Premier Campbell refuses to kick out Bruce Allen that means he is condoning those comments and next election time we should remember that. CKNW should also never condone such racially prejudiced comments and should apologize for such comments and never allow such comments on CKNW. We should always be willing to raise our voice against such racially prejudiced comments or media to prevent such things in future.
#3. BRUCE ALLEN CONTROVERSY - TWO
This is from TERESA TOWNSLEY, Newton-North Delta NDP candidate
& Delta school trustee:
I happened to be tuned in to the radio program that featured the controversial comments by Bruce Allen and was shocked and disappointed by the arrogance of his comments. In Canada, there is a freedom of speech, however, as a member of the media and a public figure in his own right, I feel that Mr. Allen bears a higher burden of responsibility for the content of his comments.
I understand that Mr. Allen now has stated that he regrets his comments. In my opinion anything less than a full apology is unacceptable. Our society and culture including "our laws" are constantly changing and evolving. This simply is a reflection of the multi-cultural community that we as Canadians have aspired to create, a successful model to the world, embracing diversity and welcoming immigration from every corner of the earth. We only have to look back a couple of hundred years to see how much this nation we now call Canada has changed when most residents spoke only aboriginal languages.
#4. SCANDALOUS PRICE DIFFERENCES!
This is from NARINDER GULATI of Surrey:
I give you the case of cars being assembled in Canada and being sold at a cheaper price in the U.S. - a difference of $14,000. Just click on the Internet and get the price of Acura-MDX assembled in Ontario and exported to the U.S. being sold there at a retail price of $43,000 while the same model in Canada has a price tag of $57,000. What a shame for Canadians! The car dealers have kept the difference in price 30% to 40% higher for Canadians.
To control the influx of cars being exported back to Canada, the Acura dealers in the U.S. told me that they have been banned by the producers to sell any new cars to Canadians.
Similarly the price of the Nissan Murano SUV is cheaper in the U.S. by $16,000.
It has been only a few months since the export of new cars by almost all the auto dealers to any buyer in Canada was banned. No Canadian would like to buy cars at this juncture by paying $10,000-$15,000 more when our dollar is at par with the American dollar.
Now come to Costco wholesale. Canadian consumers have been shocked to learn that the difference in prices between Costco in Surrey/Langley and one a few kilometres away in Bellingham of the same item is at least 30 to 40 per cent higher. A particular cordless phone I bought for $99 from Bellingham Costco was on sale at Surrey Costco for $ 139.
I think it is the media that can bring some relief to consumer by bringing these things to light.
#5. WHO'S AT FAULT: JUDGES OR POLITICIANS?
This is from SATBIR SINGH CHEEMA of Surrey:
Hats off to Stockwell Day for speaking out his mind and saying what most peace loving citizens feel about the revolving-door justice system in B.C. Some of the judges have reduced the justice system to a charade where the police have become helpless spectators forced to watch repeat offenders walk away. The victims of crime and their families sometimes wonder if the justice system works for them or the criminals. The actions of some of these judges have contributed to the deterioration of society, where law-abiding citizens live in fear and criminals feel secure. They have unwittingly created an environment in which young kids feel emboldened to get into gangs and run wild, knowing very well that they will get away with it. With all due respect, these judges should do a reality check and stop empathizing with criminals.
#6. PUBLIC TRANSPORT REQUIRES ROADS, BRIDGES
This is from ANN MAYO of New Westminster
Intriguing isn't it? For years there has public clamour about how long it takes to commute in the Lower Mainland. The NDP didn't look after the situation 15 years ago when the population began to increase. Everyone else was aware of it. Builders provided housing; city councils provided infrastructure; community groups provided support. It must have caught the NDP off guard because no one realized that these same people would need to get around.
So, now the current government is addressing the problem, but Carole James opposes it. Does the NDP Leader really not understand that without roads and bridges there is no public transit?
