MOST TYPHOID CASES IN FRASER HEALTH CONNECTED WITH TRAVEL TO PUNJAB
Typhoid rates in Fraser Health have increased threefold since 2000. The vast majority of cases of typhoid fever occur in travelers returning from abroad. This includes visitors to South Asia - a region comprising of India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. On average, more than 80% of typhoid fever cases in Fraser Health are connected with travel to India, mostly to Punjab state, says the Fraser Health Authority. [Full Story]

ICBC: FOUR CIVIL ACTIONS FILED AGAINST 95 DEFENDANTS THAT INCLUDE MANY INDO-CANADIANS
ICBC has filed four civil actions against 95 Lower Mainland residents for their alleged involvement in the conversion of 31 stolen vehicles. These civil actions are a continuation of an earlier action filed in 2006, and bring the total to 97 defendants allegedly involved in the conversion of vehicles related to 49 stolen vehicle claims. B.C. LIBERALS HAVE FAILED WOMEN AND FAMILIES

Following the violent killing of a 33-year-old mother of three in Surrey in February, the NDP caucus called on B.C.'s Attorney general Wally Oppal to take concrete steps to address the issue of domestic violence and reminded him of his government's policies that have created serious gaps for victims of domestic abuse.
