Canada Urdu Association Mushaira
The CUA is holding its annual Jashn-e-Azadi Urdu Mushaira (poetry recital) to jointly celebrate the independence days of India and Pakistan at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 25 at Fleetwood Community Center (15996-84th Avenue, Surrey). Celebrate Burrard Street Bridge
Heritage Vancouver is hosting a community celebration to mark the 75th birthday of a famous Vancouver landmark, the Burrard Street Bridge, on Sunday, August 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. on the grassy area directly west of the bridge known as Sunset Meadows. Drop by, enjoy some birthday cake, share your favourite photos, paintings and memories of the bridge and hear what the bridge means to leaders and members of your community. Currently, the city is working on the detailed design of a sidewalk expansion on this iconic Art Deco Bridge. The issue is how to accommodate increased numbers of cyclists and pedestrians without compromising the heritage architecture and iconic status of the bridge and disfiguring this civic landmark. Swami Nityananda's Satsang
Chanting & meditation program with Mahamandaleshwar Swami Nityananda in Canada until August 27. Earlier this year, Swami Nityananda embarked on a 12-month World Tour, "In The Footsteps of Bliss", to commemorate the centennial birthday of his late Guru, Baba Muktananda. By traveling and meeting with people around the world Swami Nityananda aims to rekindle the people's enthusiasm for the path of inner transformation. The world tour will focus on sharing Baba's teachings and celebrating his centenary through satsang, discourse, chanting and meditation. The tour began in India with an 11-day celebration leading up to Baba Muktananda's 99th birthday on May 2. Overall, the tour will travel to 15 countries and will conclude in India with a 15-day celebration of Baba's 100th birthday on the full moon day of May 19, 2008. As a part of this tour, Swami Nityananda will be visiting Vancouver on August 16 to have satsang, which will include chanting, meditation and a discourse by Swamiji. Venue:

Auditions for Play
Auditions for the Fraser Valley Gilbert & Sullivan Society's 2007 Panto, Excalibur the story of the Sword in the Stone will be taking place on Thursday, August 30 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.; Sunday, September 2 from 2 to 5 p.m.; and Tuesday, September 4 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. We will be looking for the usual variety of leads, a chorus of adults of all ages (12 to 70+), dancers, and a children's chorus ages 6-11.
