NOTE
Dear readers, I am off to India for a few weeks, and in my absence Veeno Dewan, who has worked for BBC TV as producer in London and has produced programs for mainstream Canadian TV for more than 10 years, will be bringing out The VOICE.

Last Monday, I was at the CBC studios for a TV interview on CBC Newsworld's Don Newman's politics program on the controversy about Prime Minister Stephen Harper quoting the malicious Vancouver Sun's article that suggested that the Liberals were against the Anti-Terrorism Act because the RCMP wanted to use its provisions against the father-in-law of Sikh MP Navdeep Singh Bains.

For the second time in less than than two years, the ugly issue of what exactly constitutes "unsafe headgear" has reared its head. And once again it concerns a soccer player of a visible minority. Just a year after they dubbed their last budget as "The Children's Budget," the Campbell Liberals' Budget 2007 delivered some of the most hurtful cuts for B.C.'s parents and children. The recently announced childcare funding cuts have sounded the death knell for many invaluable childcare services and operators in the province, bringing uncertainty and anxiety to parents all across the province. Instead of channeling some of the budget surplus into the already under-resourced childcare system in B.C., Minister of State for Childcare Linda Reid sent a letter earlier this year with terrible news for childcare providers and the families they serve. In her letter dated January 5, 2007, Minister Reid announced that beginning April 1, 2007, the B.C. government would cut its childcare budget by close to $40 million annually - forcing childcare resource and referral centres to close, scaling back childcare operating funding by 27% and putting a hold on capital funding for any new childcare spaces.

Q. I don't like my job anymore. I've been working here for almost a year now and I thought I would grow to enjoy it more, but I haven't. I'm either stressed because I'm rushing to finish a project or bored and trying to find something to do. On top of it all, they pay me less than my previous employers, though I was told a raise would come soon when I was first hired. Should I just resign? How should I go about it?
