The community is reeling from Thursday's confirmation by Delta Police that the charred remains found on Delta Port Way in south Delta on Monday (October 23) were those of 30-year-old Surrey teacher Manjit Panghali went missing last week on Wednesday (October 18). She was four months pregnant with her second child.

It's been a year since the two violent attacks on Mewa Singh Bains and Shingara Singh Thandi in July of 2005 by two young offenders in Surrey's Bear Creek Park occurred. The case is coming to its final stages in the prosecution of the two youths accused (13 and 15 at the time) who have pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder of Thandi, 76, and the aggravated assault and robbery of Bains, 84, who died two months after the attack.

The macabre discovery of the charred remains of Manjit Panghali, who was four months pregnant, have evoked memories of the horrendous August 4, 1993 Pizza King crime in which Surrey RCMP found what they believe to be the charred remains of Bikker Singh Sangha, 64, in the oven of the restaurant that used to be located at 12012-88th Avenue in Newton.

The British Columbia Coroners Service will conduct a Coroner's inquest into the death of Gurmit Singh Sundhu. Sundhu became unresponsive while being taken into custody by Surrey RCMP on June 30, 2005. A Taser was used by police during this incident. Sundhu was taken by ambulance to Surrey Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
