Would immigration amendments being suggested solve problem of fraud marriages or would they do more harm than good?
I read with interest and appreciation a letter written by Dr. Chinmoy Banerjee, Secretary for SANSAD on "marriage and immigration abuse" in last week's VOICE newspaper. Last week I attended a forum organized by Mr. Raj Chouhan, MLA for Burnaby-Edmonds, on the victims of abuse due to marriage fraud. A few victims spoke out emotionally and with courage in their oral testimonies of abuse, which opened discussions as an important step towards solving this serious problem.
Canadian Marriage Fraud Victims' Society gets a political boost
The issue of spousal abuse taken up by the society got a political push on June 7 when Raj Chohan, NDP MLA for Burnaby-Edmonds along with NDP MLAs such as Diane Thorne of Coquitlam-Maillardville and Harry Bains of Surrey-Newton conducted a Town Hall meeting in Burnaby. About 150 people, comprised of victims and the key people of some concerned organizations participated in the meeting.
Twenty-four Indo-Canadian claimants allegedly involved in 12 fraudulent collisions
On Monday, ICBC filed a lawsuit in B.C. Supreme Court against 24 people who were allegedly involved in conspiracies to defraud ICBC. It is suspected the claimants intentionally caused motor vehicle collisions and then made fraudulent claims to ICBC for compensation.

Gurv Sihra, 21, of Burnaby, better known as Giby, the Golden Lion of Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW), made ECCW history in Comox recently by becoming the first Indo-Canadian pro wrestler to win the NWA/ECCW North Pacific Junior Heavyweight Championship belt, since the establishment of the company 10 years ago under the management of Mark Vellios and Dave Republic.

Publication ban after a flood of leaks makes Canadian justice look screwy
First, the Canadian intelligence and the police forces leak "facts" left, right and centre about the alleged terrorist plot involving 17 men and youths and create a highly dramatic Hollywood-style effect by bringing out an army of heavily armed cops when the accused are first produced in a Brampton court in Ontario.
YOUR TURN
The VOICE was right on target when it said (the arrests of 17 people) is good news for the Conservatives and their new relationship as puppets of the US and their extreme right winged policies (Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran next?). While most Canadians believe these arrests to have stopped a massacre, I disagree. Like Project Thread, these teenagers were not only amateurs but they never had a chance of inflicting any harm as they were watched for more then two years and bumbled at every point. This group was a very ragtag one to say the least and multiethnic as shown in pictures.
January 2004 Gastown murders allegedly result of fight between Indo-Canadian male and East Asian male over a white woman
The trial of Imran Saff Sharif, 25, got under way this week in BC Supreme Court for the shooting outside the Purple Onion nightclub in Vancouver's historic Gastown in the early hours of January 3, 2004. Sharif is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Rachel Davis, 23, the daughter of Canadian actress Janet Wright, and Richard Hui, 24, besides five counts of attempted murder and five counts of aggravated assault, because quite a few were injured in the firing that took place that night.
My Kuwait Diary: An extremely rewarding work
Kuwait was the first Gulf State to propose votes for women in 1971 but the proposal was repeatedly rejected by parliament. Finally, women were granted the right to vote and hold elected office for the first time on May 16, 2005, after the parliament passed an amendment to the electoral law.
