On Sunday, June 4, the Surrey RCMP will host a public information session geared towards youth in our community. The session is intended to target the high school population and their parents to explore whether a career in policing could be something in their future. It is important to talk to youth while they are still in the decision making stage and it is particularly important to include parents and give them the opportunity to play an active role.

Descendants of passengers aboard the Komagata Maru have called upon the federal government to open discussions with the South Asian community and reach an agreement on a formal apology with possible compensatory measures. On May 23, 92 years ago, the Komagata Maru arrived in Vancouver carrying 376 Indian passengers looking to build a new life in a new country. Unfortunately, the ship's arrival in Burrard Inlet was met with prejudice, disrespect and ignorance. The passengers on board the ship arrived with dreams of making a new home in Canada only to find their dreams dashed on the rocks of racism and intolerance.
