TransLink rejection of 'Punjabi Market-Langara' name a lost opportunity for British Columbians
As some readers may be aware, I recently had an opportunity to speak in the Legislature of British Columbia in support of an initiative brought forward by members of my community, to name the new Canada Line station at 49th and Cambie streets in honour of the nearby Punjabi Market. What better way to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of this vibrant South Asian neighbourhood where one feels transported into the rich world of Indian culture, music and food.

Herb Dhaliwal wants federal Liberal leadership candidates with "more national profile"
Clearly, former Liberal federal minister Herb Dhaliwal is not satisfied with the present batch of 11 candidates for the federal Liberal Party leadership. Herb Dhaliwal: Stephen Harper wasting money on wrong crime priorities
Former Liberal federal minister Herb Dhaliwal, a highly respected figure both in the Indo-Canadian and mainstream communities, told The VOICE that Prime Minister Stephen Harper shouldn't have wasted money on arming customs officers at the border because a major review commissioned by the government when he was the minister had shown this was not necessary. Gangsters: Live by the sword, die by the sword
For those in the Indo-Canadian community who still have weird ideas of the wrong type of glory, last week's shooting of accused Chinese-Canadian drug dealer Tommy Ho Sing Chan at downtown Vancouver's Richard's on Richards nightclub should conjure up images of the fatal nightclub shooting of cocaine dealer Bindy Johal. These incidents are a good indicator of where such types end up no matter how powerful they may seem for a while.

The recent decision of B.C. Supreme Court Justice Catherine Wedge setting aside the B.C. Financial Institutions Commission (FICom) November 2005 order removing Ripudaman Singh Malik from the board of directors of the highly successful Khalsa Credit Union, which Malik was instrumental in establishing 20 years ago, comes as a slap in the face to FICom superintendent Alan Clark.
