Herb Dhaliwal warns of the REAL Stephen Harper and tells Paul Martin to rally ALL Liberals
With the Conservatives surging well ahead of the Liberals in the polls and with Prime Minister Paul Martin appearing to be lost as to what strategy to adopt to reverse the trend, highly respected former federal minister Herb Dhaliwal, who's well known for his deep insight into politics as well as his blunt talk, provided the following analysis to The VOICE on Wednesday night:

The new Conservative Party: A voice for all Canadians
A recent article both in the Toronto Star and Vancouver Sun, pointed out that in this election the Conservative Party is fielding more visible minority candidates than the Liberal Party. It is quite a stunning defeat for a party (Liberal) whose mantra to visible minorities has been "vote for us because we let you into the country."

Politics of Crime and Gun Violence: A Voter's View
After the rash of year-end shootings in the Lower Mainland and the death of an innocent teen shopper in Toronto, the issue of crime and gun violence has grabbed the attention of all the political parties. Canada's Federal Election and the Punjabi Language
Canada's Federal election is in full swing and people from the Punjabi community are fully immersed in it. In the Greater Vancouver area, especially in Surrey, numerous candidates of Punjabi heritage, representing different political parties have entered the field. The situation in Toronto and other large centres is the same. Wherever Punjabis live in significant numbers, they are working to make some Punjabi candidate or helping someone close to the community successful.

Who will replace Paul Martin as the federal Liberal leader?
At the all-candidates meeting I attended in North Vancouver (recently), Paul Martin's name was not mentioned once. The incumbent Liberal, Don Bell, admitted that he was blindsided by Martin's announcement during the leadership race that a way would be devised under a Liberal government to prevent the notwithstanding clause from ever being used by the federal government. The audience was polite; no one asked what hope there is for Canada if the Liberals get re-elected after all the recent scandals, and no one asked Bell who he would back in the upcoming Liberal leadership race.

Community Resource for South Asian Youth
The Indo-Canadian community has come a long way since its ancestors set foot on Canadian soil in 1897. Members of our community have been making a great contribution to the growth and development of this country for more than one hundred years. They have made impressive strides in nearly every aspect of Canadian life. Unfortunately, for the past few years, such achievements have been somewhat overshadowed by the senseless violence amongst some our young people.
