VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC 1 – FC DALLAS 2

Kamara scores again as ‘Caps fall 2-1 to FC Dallas at BC Place

VANCOUVER, BC: Vancouver Whitecaps FC (11W-11L-7D) fell 2-1 to FC Dallas (15W-6L-8D) on Sunday afternoon in a hotly-contested Western Conference tilt at BC Place.

Kei Kamara provided the scoring for Vancouver, recording his team-leading 13th goal of the season in the 66th minute after some individual brilliance from Alphonso Davies. But it wasn’t enough, as Dallas emerged victorious and moved into first-place in the Western Conference thanks to a pair of set-piece goals at the end of each half.

The ‘Caps had their chances in this one, and Davies was front and centre.

In the 19th minute, the 17-year-old blew by FC Dallas left back Marquinhos Pedroso and cut it back to Kamara, whose acrobatic bicycle attempt struck the hand of Victor Ulloa. There were shouts for a handball, but it was not given.

Shortly later, the ‘Caps had their best chance of the first half when Cristian Techera struck the crossbar after receiving a cross from Brett Levis at the near post.

It was a decent spell of play from the home side but Dallas broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute, with Santiago Mosquera heading in a Maximiliano Urruti free kick at the near post.

Vancouver would eventually equalize in the 66th minute through Kamara, who powered in a header after some fine work from Davies on the left.

Davies, who had dropped to left back with Levis leaving the match with a quad strain at halftime, beat two defenders before delivering a perfect cross into the box. It was Davies’ 11th assist of the season, one back of Pedro Morales for the all-time Whitecaps FC record in MLS.

But it was undone in the 87th minute, when Matt Hedges headed home a flicked-on corner at the back post to seal the three points for the visitors.

The ‘Caps now hit the road for a pair of road fixtures at LA Galaxy on September 29 and Toronto FC on October 6 before hosting Sporting Kansas City on October 17 at BC Place. Season Ticket Memberships for 2019 are on sale now, with fans able to save 12 per cent until Tuesday.
