Vancouver police recover some stolen wigs

VANCOUVER Police have recovered a portion of the wigs that were stolen during a break-in earlier this week.

On September 7, just after 3:30 a.m., someone broke into the Eva and Company Wigs at 950 West Broadway and made off with an estimated 150 wigs made from human hair and are valued at approximately $2,500 each. Many of the wigs were destined for cancer patients at BC Children’s Hospital.

Officers received a call at around 10 p.m. on Thursday night that a bag of wigs was located in a hotel hallway in the Downtown Eastside. Police have seized the wigs and are continuing their investigation. No arrests have been made.

“The person who located the bag of wigs immediately linked them to the media coverage about the theft and called 9-1-1,” said Constable Jason Doucette. “Although we’ve recovered a portion of the wigs, the investigation remains a priority. We would like to get the remainder of the property back and make an arrest in this case.”

The suspect has been described as dark-skinned, with noticeably curly long, black hair. He was last seen walking away from the wig store carrying a large black garbage bag and wearing a denim or blue jacket.

Anyone with information about the suspect, or the location of the rest of the stolen wigs, is asked to call the VPD’s Property Crime investigators at 604-717-0610 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
