Two-year-old boy dies in Langley house fire

The RCMP confirms that a two-year-old boy has died of his injuries after a house fire on 272nd Street near 84th Avenue Friday morning.

There were heroic attempts to save his life. When firefighters were called out around 8 a.m. they were told someone was missing.

Fire Chief Stephen Gamble says firefighters went straight into rescue mode. “If any persons are unaccounted for in a building it puts our crews at a higher level of response.”

Crews went inside the home and the boy was pulled out. They began doing first aid immediately and the boy was rushed to the hospital but he died of his injuries a short time later.

Gamble says the rural area does not have fire hydrants so firefighters had to use water tanks to douse the intense flames. “So what we use is a tanker shuttle system, basically use trucks that carry large volumes of water.”

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
