PRIME Minister Justin Trudeau says he will be announcing ‘some changes’ to his cabinet on Monday as MP Scott Brison, President of the Treasury Board of Canada, announced that he won’t run for re-election and is stepping down from cabinet.

Brison tweeted on Thursday morning: “I would like to share an important family decision: I’ve informed the Prime Minister of my decision to not seek re-election in 2019. As such, I’ve decided to step down from my role as President of the Treasury Board and will work with the PM to ensure a smooth transition.”

Trudeau tweeted: “For 22 years he’s been a tireless champion for the people of Nova Scotia and for Canada. And one of the friendliest people you will ever meet in this business. @ScottBrison – our country is better for your service and dedication.”

Brison told CBC: “It’s time to put my family first and to think of new opportunities. Life begins at 50, I’m 51 and I’m very excited about opportunities to do something different while continuing to help and serve people of Canada and the people of Kings-Hants [his riding] in a different way,”
