By Veeno Dewan
One man is dead and another in critical condition after what police are describing as a targeted shooting on Thursday. Just after 11:00 p.m. Surrey RCMP received a 911 call of shots fired in the 13900 block of 56th Ave in the city.
Surrey RCMP, along with BC Ambulance Service attended the scene and located two males, aged 27 and 28, both appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds.
According to reports at least one of the victims is South Asian. Both the victims were taken to hospital where one male was pronounced deceased. The second victim has undergone surgery and is currently in critical condition.
We know one of the victims is known to police, so based on that history it appears to be gang-related,” said RCMP Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. “But we can’t get into the specifics.”
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in and are working in conjunction with Surrey RCMP and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Emergency Response Team.
The IHIT team is asking anyone who may have information about this homicide to come forward and speak with investigators. The shooting follows just days after well-known Surrey gang member Sandip (Dip) Duhre, 36, was gunned down execution-style at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver on Tuesday night. Pound said she could not confirm if the shooting was related to or in retaliation for Duhre’s killing.
Pound said both the men were believed to be Surrey residents. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is asking anyone who may have information about this homicide to come forward and speak with investigators.
