THE Surrey RCMP, City of Surrey, Surrey School District, and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-BC) are hosting a community forum to provide parents, students and area residents with information regarding the recent shootings in the area and the issues that are contributing to this type of violence. The forum will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. at Tamanawis Secondary School (12600 66th Avenue, Surrey).
“We understand that the community is very concerned,” says Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner. “We would like to provide an opportunity to discuss the violence that is happening, what the police are doing and what the community can do.”
Besides Hepner, in attendance to provide information and answer questions from the public will be:
* Chief Superintendent Bill Fordy, Officer-in-Charge, Surrey RCMP
* Rick Ryan, Deputy Superintendent, Surrey Schools
* Chief Superintendent Kevin Hackett, Chief Officer, CFSEU-BC
There will also be Punjabi-speaking staff members and police officers available to speak to parents and residents.
“Parents and community members can increase public safety by learning to recognize the signs of potential gang involvement in young people,” says Hackett. “It is critical that we work together so we can, as a community, guide children and youth back on a positive path and create resiliency.”
