Surrey announces Anti-bullying Film Contest
Students who produce the winning entries in Surrey’s Anti-bullying Film Contest will receive a host of unique prizes.
The best film in each of the two categories will be profiled on Global TV and Shaw TV. Winners will also receive guided tours of a working television program, courtesy of North Shore Studios, and the Global TV BC studio.
In addition, the two top entries will be screened in front of over 1,200 students at the 2012 ‘Projecting Change Film Festival’ to be held from April 17th to 22nd in Vancouver. The top three entries in each category will also receive tickets to the 2012 Vancouver International Film Festival, and receive trophies during a ceremony on Anti-Bullying Day, Wednesday February 29th, at the Surrey RCMP Main Detachment building.
“The film contest is about raising awareness and taking a stand. We’re grateful the community is helping us speak out against bullying, which unfortunately still exists in schools and workplaces throughout the country,” says Mayor Dianne Watts.
The City of Surrey, Surrey RCMP and CUPE Local 402 launched a new youth film contest earlier this month focusing on how or why we must put an end to bullying at school, at home and in the workplace. Students between the ages of 14 and 18 have been invited to submit a 30-second or 60-second film on this topic.
