Newton Community Gaming Centre manager Shannon Gnocato had been waiting and anticipating this moment for some time. On November 15, over 100 sparkling new slot machines were officially activated as part of a grand re-opening to celebrate the new and improved gaming facility located at 7093 King George Highway.
“The transformation of this facility has been amazing. The renovations to this site have created an atmosphere that is welcoming and classy – we’re very proud of the experience we are now able to offer our players,” said Gnocato. She added, “The addition of over 100 temporary slot machines will provide an additional gaming experience for our players, but they will also help us to build a new future for the Newton Square Mall.”
As part of its agreement with the city of Surrey, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Limited will activate up to 150 slot machines on a temporary basis, and has committed to leading the redevelopment and revitalization of the Newton Square Mall. If the South Surrey Entertainment Complex receives approval, the slot machines will move to the new site, but bingo will continue to be offered at the Newton site.
The area revitalization plan envisions the densification and transformation of the heart of the Newton community. This will be achieved through a rethinking of the street network, a shift of the current transit hub and new land uses accommodating mixed-use development. The Newton Square Redevelopment lies just to the West of the Newton Town Centre Plan; however, it will be direct affected by what happens to the East and will serve to improve the Newton Town Centre area.
