Peel Regional Police: When our loved ones wander away

THOSE with family members who are living with Alzheimer’s or autism or with a medical condition realize the need for a quick and focused response. Finding vulnerable loved ones who have wandered away has become easier in Peel now that we are partnered with the MedicAlert Foundation Canada in a program called MedicAlert Connect Protect, say Peel Regional Police.

They say: “There has been a steady increase in the number of missing vulnerable people within our region.  We welcome any resources that are available to help police locate these missing loved ones quickly and safely.   MedicAlert Connect Protect gives police information about this special person 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to help in locating them.”

Police immediately receive information regarding their caregiver, wandering history, triggers and access to an up-to-date photo.  Those who sign up get a customized medical ID which is engraved using medical words that are understood around the world, family notification services and more.

MedicAlert Foundation Canada (MAFCA) is the best provider of emergency medical information services in Canada. MedicAlert’s mission is to make sure that all Canadians can get high-quality health information when they need it.  It has protected more than one million Canadians since 1961, say Peel Regional Police.

All you have to do is sign up for the MedicAlert Connect Protect program to get the benefits of this service.  You can also get information on this partnership through our Charities and Partnerships webpage.
