Halloween was a nightmare for Surrey RCMP, thousands of fireworks seized

SURREY RCMP officers were kept busy this past Halloween responding to over 550 calls for service which is a 25% increase in calls compared to Halloween last year.

A considerable amount of extra resources were planned for and deployed throughout the evening to deal with this increase in service. While the majority of residents celebrated in a fun and safe manner, one-third of these calls were fireworks-related. Almost 200 bylaw files were created and dispatched for fireworks and thousands of fireworks were seized by officers.

Surrey RCMP said they appreciated the public’s patience as we responded, based on priority, to this large volume of anticipated calls.

Surrey RCMP continues to encourage residents to report any incidents involving the misuse of fireworks to our non-emergency number at 604-599-0502.
