Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau greets Indo-Canadian community on India’s Independence Day

THE Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau, on Friday issued the following statement in recognition of India’s Independence Day:

“Today, I am delighted to send my most sincere greetings to the people of India and to members of our Indo-Canadian community as they celebrate the 67th anniversary of India’s independence. India represents an enduring model of a strong, stable democracy in the world, and the country’s most recent elections have renewed and reinforced the commitment of its citizens to promote and protect their democratic values.

“With many Canadians of Indian descent living in Canada, it is important to reflect on the significant contributions and the lasting impact that they have had on our country, particularly with respect to strengthening Canadian multiculturalism. Together, India and Canada can take pride in our shared belief in democracy and diversity.

“I am happy to wish all those celebrating today a very happy Independence Day, and I look forward to continuing to engage and celebrate with Indians both here in Canada and around the world.”
