Surrey RCMP said a man shot in a Monday night incident was the victim of targeted shooting. But that shooting is not linked to the recent gang violence in the lower mainland.

A 22-year-old Surrey man was shot multiple times while walking along the 9300 block of 138 Street at about 11:45 p.m. The man was found face-down a block from Surrey Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds to the torso.

RCMP Cpl. Drew Grainger said that the victim was known to police for drug and minor assault instances. He was considered in serious condition after surgery. “Some of the information we were able to obtain early in the investigation has led us to aggressively pursue this the moment we became aware of it,” Grainger said.

Information from the victim led police to catch a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee in the 7500 block of 144 Street. However the male occupant of the vehicle managed to evade police capture despite a search of the area using police dogs.

Police are looking for a Caucasian male about 6′ wearing a ball cap. Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
